Settling in
0I’m not sure how many people know, but my room mates and I were very concerned, during the past few weeks, that we would be able to stay in the apartment we’re in now once the lease expired next month. It was a stressful time on top of every thing else I had to deal with on my own.
Well, after discussions with the landlord, we’re going to be staying, so now we can really settle in. We finally got ourselves a kitchen table. Our kitchen area is small, so we never bought one out of concern we’d buy one for the size limitation we currently had and then not need it a few months later. It’s nice to have a place to sit and eat, finally.
We’re also doing small things here and there to make things more homely. A set of coat hooks down by the front door and such add nice finishing touches to the place and make it that much more comfortable to be in.
Money is still very tight and I’m not getting nearly enough hours at work, but at least I’m ok…for now.
They came in through the roof
7Yesterday was an interesting day at work. As usual, a couple of us guys got there at 6am to start our day of work. One of the new guys, Mike, was going across the store to punch in on a computer in the camera department when he came across a smashed in iPod security case. Glass littered the ground, surrounding an abandoned sledge hammer. He called the manager over and all of us were instructed to head to the front of the store while they scoped out the rest of the damage. A few aisles over from the iPod case, the cabinet housing SLR cameras was also busted open and emptied, though two large duffel bags were left behind just like the aforementioned sledge hammer.
Three police units came and they started looking around and discovered the burglars came in through a roof hatch, in the warehouse, that was left open after work was done on the roof, on Saturday. Suspicious? Very. They then managed to head directly the the cameras and iPods and, either by luck or skill, discovered a huge blindspot in our camera system and, thus, avoided ever being caught on camera. The only movemet ever caught on camera was actually a broom handle that moved, slightly, near the ladder where they came in.
Overall, they managed to grab about $35,000 worth of merchandise before leaving. When I was punching out, the detectives were there and forensics was dusting for prints and taking pictures of the two areas.
It was a crazy morning. This stuff just doesn’t happen every day, especially in my world. I wasn’t panicked or scared, but just intrigued and a little perplexed how this could all happen at the place where I work.
