At the Show
At the Show (12/2/2005)
I’m busting my own ass to make it straight up to the front
I want to see this band and just go all fucking nuts
It’s right up front or bust for the truest of the fans
Where the hour glass is drained and the time comes to a stand
There, throwing up my hands clenched tightly in a fist
And I’m screaming to the band “Man I really like this shit”
Cause it helps me to exist and get loosened up a bit
Going fucking crazy as they go down through the list
And there down in this pit, where it’s only me and I
I’m jumping on this girl’s bag and shoving at her guy
Cause nowhere in my mind do I even slightly care
I’m just breathing in the music, never taking in the air
And everything is fair as I’m pressed up to the railing
Screaming out my lungs even though my voice is failing
Soaked to the bone from the rain that tried to stop this
Nature’s little bubble, but we all stood up and popped it
We need this shit, you got it? And nothing will prevent it
We got this shit inside and we need to fucking vent it
Every single sentence that has a curse for us to hear
Makes us go more crazy as we stand and fucking cheer
And it comes in so damn clear that this is my own moment
The music that I hear cracks the shell and I am open
Everything’s in motion from my body to my spirit
These words can’t paint the picture until you fucking hear it
Note: This piece is really more experimental than it may first seem. Firstly, this is one of the very few times I try to paint a scene instead of emoting myself through rhyme. It’s a whole new challenge in and of itself because I need to make it clera enough to get, but skip too many specifics that prevent the reader from associating with it. Secondly, it’s short. It kills me to release something this short, but, if this were on an album of some sort, it would be one of those minute long in between tracks to fill in the gaps. Other than that, it’s just a curse filled, purely adrenaline based depiction of what it’s like to be at a rock concert. No deep thought, just energy.
